OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's tennis program picked up its first dual win of the season against Northern Iowa Sunday at Miracle Hill Tennis Center.

"It's a great feeling to get that first win of the season and I'm proud how of the ladies did it," said head coach Adam Summitt. "The doubles play was shaky at first, but we stayed mentally ready to pull it out. In singles, we got off to quick starts, but credit Northern Iowa for not backing down and making us earn it in a few matches going three sets. I am hoping we can fix a few things before Friday. If we do, we are in a great position."

The duo of Natalie Lorentz and Savanna Crowell picked up the first doubles win for Omaha, as they defeated UNI's Reghan Lynch and Claudia Toledo, 6-1. Ines Absisan and Janelle Wilson clinched the double point for Omaha after they defeated the Panthers' Caro Valentina and Harri Proudfoot in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5).

In singles, the Mavericks picked up wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6. Emily Behling gave Omaha its second point of the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Oliva Fain at No. 6. Later on, Absisan earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over UNI's Reghan Lynch at No. 1, before Lorentz clinched the match with a three-set victory (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) against Proudfoot.

Omaha (1-1) heads to the state of Wisconsin next weekend for a pair of road matches. The Mavericks head to Madison, Wis., to take on Wisconsin Friday, Jan. 25, at noon, followed by a showdown with Milwaukee Saturday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. For more information, visit OMavs.com.
