Volleyball's Case Garners Offensive Player of the Week Honors

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Freshman setter Sydney Case was selected as The Summit League Offensive Player of the Week for her performance the week of Aug. 27 – Sept. 2., the league office announced Tuesday.

Case helped the Mavericks achieve a 3-0 home record at the Omaha Challenge, which marked the first time in the Division I era that the program went undefeated in its home tournament. The freshman from Lakeville, Minn., averaged 13.7 assists per set and accumulated 151 total assists over the three-match span.

She opened the tournament with a 50-assist performance to go with eight digs in the 3-1 win over UMKC, and followed up with a career-high 57 assists and 10 digs for her first double-double of her career. In that match, Case also tallied three service aces and two blocks.

In the final match of the tournament, Case helped the team to a 3-0 win over UTEP and totaled 44 assists with six digs. Overall, she helped guide the team to a .266 hitting percentage.

Omaha hits the road this weekend for a trio of matches at the K-State Invitational Friday, Sept. 7 – Saturday, Sept. 8. The Mavericks open with a 10 a.m. match against Oregon State and 5:30 p.m. against North Texas on Friday, followed by a matchup against host Kansas State on Saturday at 6 p.m.
