VALENTINE, Neb. – Senior
Kevin Gordon is tied for first place after the first round of The Jackrabbit hosted by South Dakota State at The Prairie Club.
Gordon's 67 paced the Omaha men's golf team and tied him Kansas' Harry Hillier at the top of the 73-player field after the first of three rounds on the Dunes course.
Gordon, who finished second at SIUE's Derek Dolenc Invitational last week with a school-record score of 206, bogeyed the opening hole but came right back with a birdie on the par-four second. He had one more birdie on the front, leaving him one under at the turn.
On the way in, Gordon posted four more birdies including three straight on holes 11-13, all of them par fours.
The Mavericks are tied with SIUE for 11th in the 13-team field with a score of 304.
Nick Kagy is second on the team and tied for 51st overall with an opening round of 78. He finished one stroke ahead of
Witchayapat Sinsrang who carded a 79 to sit in a tie for 58th.
Thirawat Chantrakantanond fired a first-round score of 80, and
Cole Christain shot 83 to put them in a tie for 62nd and 67th respectively.
The second round begins Monday at 9 a.m.
