OMAHA, Neb. – Senior
Janelle Wilson picked up her 100th career win in doubles play, as the Mavericks competed at the Creighton Bluejay Invite Friday, Sept. 28 - Saturday, Sept. 29.
"I am extremely proud of Janelle accomplishing 100 career wins here at Omaha," said head coach
Adam Summitt. "During my time here, she has grown as a player and person. She fully deserves this accomplishment. I know she is not done yet and plans to accomplish a lot more during her last year as a Maverick."
Over the two-day span, the Mavericks competed in doubles flights against Creighton, Milwaukee, Doane and North Dakota.
In the Flight B doubles, the team of Wilson and
Emily Behling advanced to the final round off victories over North Dakota's Alex Revenig and Jaylee Yasunaga (6-2) and Creighton's Julia Aguirre and Meredith Benson (6-1). The duo also led North Dakota's Isa Sullivan and Masha Lobanova 3-2 in the final round, but the match was left unfinished due to weather.
In the same flight,
Rylee Tucker and
Clare Crockett picked up a 6-1 win over Doane's Lily Farr and Brylee Lauby.
For the Flight A doubles,
Natalie Lorentz and
Marie Kapelevich earned a first-round win over Creighton's Sarah Wilcox and Erin Epperson (6-4). The team also finished third overall in the consolation title match with a victory over Milwaukee's Nicole Clark and Nikki Milner (6-2).
Savanna Crowell and
Ines Absisan tallied a win in the consolation bracket over Creighton's Michaela Henne and Ashley Ishimura (6-4).
In the round-robin Flight C, Omaha's
Justine Linscott and Creighton's Kendra Lavallee defeated Doane's Ava Macke and Makayla Rice, 6-3.
"We mixed up new partners for this tournament with some people who haven't played together before," said Summitt. "We wanted to see if we could find some good matchups. I thought we played extremely well with some of us having just a few practices together. With the weather wreaking havoc this weekend, the ladies did a good job of staying in the moment and not worrying about the temperature or rain. The entire team dug in and played some great tennis."
Omaha returns to action Oct. 12-14 in Iowa City, Iowa for the ITA Regionals.
