OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory in its Summit League home opener against the Western Illinois Leathernecks Friday night.
The Mavericks won in three sets (25-19, 25-15, 25-13) over the Leathernecks and improved to 8-7 overall with a perfect 3-0 mark in league play.
Leaders for Omaha
Isabella Sade finished with a match-high 11 kills on .643 hitting and four blocks.
Sydney Case tallied 38 assists while defensively,
Courtney Morehead and Claire Moutjoy recorded 11 and 10 digs apiece.
Notes
- Omaha hit .402 as a team in the match which marks the second-highest hitting percentage this season.
- Sade tallied her 10th match this season of double-digit kills.
- The win over Western Illinois marked the second 3-0 sweep for the Mavericks this season with the last being against UTEP on Sept. 1 in the Omaha Challenge.
- The Mavericks recorded more kills (43-21), assists (41-20), digs (35-25) and blocks (6-3) than WIU.
- Omaha improves to 9-4 all-time against the Leathernecks.
Inside Set 1
The Mavericks jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead to open the match. Down 12-10, Omaha pulled together a 9-1 run that was capped off by a
Claire Leonard kill which made it 19-13. Western Illinois cut the Mavericks' lead to three (20-17), but Omaha was able to maintain the cushion and close out the set 25-19 off a kill by Sade.
Inside Set 2
Western Illinois sparked a 4-0 run to lead 5-4 in the match, but six straight points by the Mavericks put them ahead 12-7. A kill by
Sadie Limback concluded a 4-0 run that increased Omaha's lead to eight (16-8) in the match. From there, the Mavericks were able to take the second set off a 25-15 victory.
Inside Set 3
The big Omaha run came midway through the third frame as the Mavericks scored six straight and led 14-6. Another 5-0 spurt made it a 19-8 match off a kill by Leonard. In her debut,
Alexa Blase recorded her first-career kill which sparked a 4-1 run to close and helped close out the sweep for the Mavericks.
