MADISON, Ill. – The Omaha men's golf team posted the best 54-hole team score in school history to take second place at the Derek Dolenc Invitational at SIUE on Tuesday.

In the process, senior Kevin Gordon set two records including the lowest 54-hole score in school history.

The Mavericks closed with a final round team score of 285 to finish at 854, putting them just two over par.  It was the second record set by the Mavericks this week after shooting a school record score of 280 in round one.

The previous record for a 54-hole team score was 870 at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate at Old Dominion in 2016.

Gordon closed with a five-under round of 66, the lowest single player round in school history, to lead the Mavericks in scoring with a school-record total of 206.  He put up five birdies and closed with an eagle on the par-five 18th to finish second in the 96-player field.  He earned the three thanks to a pin-point three wood from the fairway on his second shot that left him only three feet from the hole.

Witchayapat Sinsrang tied for sixth overall with a score of 213.  He closed the tournament with a round of 73, two over par.

Nick Kagy was third on the team and tied for 24th with a 54-hole total of 218 that including an even-par final round of 71.  Kagy had six birdies in his round, all of which came after opening with a quadruple bogey on his opening hole, the second.

Cole Christain closed with a final round of 75 and posted a total score of 221 that had him fourth on the team and tied for 31st overall.  Thirawat Chantrakantanond tied for 56th overall after shooting a third-round score of 77 that put him at 226 for the tournament.

Jonah Wright, playing as an individual, shot 78 in the final round to close at 231.

The Mavericks return to Nebraska to compete in The Jackrabbit hosted by South Dakota State at The Prairie Club in Valentine on Sunday-Tuesday, Sept. 30 – Oct. 2.
