Mavericks Wrap Up Competition in Milwaukee, Des Moines

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team opened its fall season with tournaments in Des Moines, Iowa, and Milwaukee, Wisc.

The Mavericks sent two players to the Milwaukee Tennis Classic that featured some of the top players in the country.  The rest of the team traveled to the Drake Invitational.

Abdoul Ouattara opened his season with a straight-set win over Matis Mot of (Saint Mary's (CA) 6-4, 6-2.  Razvan Grigorescu made quick work of Alan Sweet (Wisconsin) in the first round 6-3, 6-1.

Ouatarra fell in straight sets to No. 12 Keenan May (Illinois) 6-3, 6-2.  Grigorescu pushed No. 9 Luca Wiedenmann (Tennessee) to three sets.  Weidenmann won the first set 6-2 before Grigorescu rallied to win the second 6-3.  Weidenmann then finished the match by winning the third set 6-1.

Grigorescu and Ouattara teamed up for doubles but fell 8-4 to Christopher Casati/Boris Spaanjaard (DePaul).

Drake Invitational
Davis Lawley and Ethan Henry each advanced to the semifinals in the 'B' and 'C' singles flights, respectively.  The doubles team of Matt Dunn and Hugo Piles made it to the finals of the 'B' Doubles Flight.

Lawley dispatched Louis Compas (Northwest Missouri State) in straight-sets to open the tournament 6-1, 6-1.  He then stopped Nick Wade (Northern Colorado) 6-1, 6-2 before falling to Mason Meier (Nebraska) in split sets.

Henry defeated Jon Meyer (Nebraska) in the first round, 6-1, 7-5.  He then topped Chuck Tang (North Dakota) 6-2, 6-1 before falling to Franco Oliva (NWMSU) 6-0, 6-1.

Matt Dunn defeated Daniel Lopez-Rey (Creighton) in split sets 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) in the first round of 'B' singles.  Dunn then lost in straight sets to Agustin Velseco (NWMSU).

Jacob Weber went 1-1 in the 'D' singles flight.  Weber opened with a 7-6, 7-6 win over Mouaad Alhouni (Gustavus Adolphus).  He then fell in split sets to Xavier Sanga (Gustavus Adolphus), 6-4, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (10-7).

Dunn and Piles started their run with a 7-6 win over Lopez-Rey and Jose Oscar Diaz (Creighton).  The tandem continued their run by taking Adolfo Arroyo and Nick Wade (Northern Colorado), 7-6.  The pair dropped a 6-4 match to another Bluejay doubles team.

The pairing of Henry and Weber stopped Bjorn Kurtze and Pedro Pontes (NWMSU), 6-1, before falling to Northern Colorado, 6-4.

The Mavericks return to the courts at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championship in Tulsa, Okla., on Oct. 4-8.
