MADISON, Ill. – The Omaha men's golf team opened its second fall tournament with the lowest team round in school history and sits in second place after the first 36-holes of the Derek Dolenc Invitational at SIUE.
The Mavericks carded a first-round score of 280, two strokes better than the previous school record set last year, and followed that with a score of 289 to sit at 569 for the 54-hole event. Host SIUE leads with a score of 566 while Bradley is third at 570. The tournament features 17 teams.
Kevin Gordon and
Witchayapat Sinsrang tied for the team scoring lead at 140. Both players shot two-under scores of 69 in the first round and followed with even-par rounds of 71 over the second 18 holes. They are tied for third in the 95-player field.
Gordon was a model of consistency in the first round, shooting three birdies against only one bogey. Sinsrang had four birdies and two bogeys in round one.
Cole Christain is third for the Mavericks and tied for 29th overall with a score of 146. He shot a one-under 70 in round one, firing four birdies against three bogeys. He came back with 76 in round two.
Nick Kagy is one stroke behind Christain at 147, a score that included rounds of 72 and 75. He's tied for 31st.
Thirawat Chantrakantanond completed the scoring for the Mavericks with scores of 77 and 72 for a total of 149. He's tied for 45th.
Jonah Wright, playing as an individual, carded rounds of 77 and 76 for a total of 153 that has him in a tie for 68th.
The final round begins at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday at the Gateway National Golf Links.
