VAUGHAN, Ontario, Canada – The Omaha men's soccer team concluded its four-match tour of Canada on Monday, as the Mavericks defeated Vaughan SC 3-1. With the win, Omaha finished its trip with a 4-0 record against Canadian competition.
The Mavericks took the early advantage with a goal in the 10th minute. Freshman Nil Ayats chipped a ball to junior
Diego Gutierrez on the wing. Gutierrez penetrated the defense off the dribble before playing the ball back to Ayats who drilled home a shot from the top of the penalty area.
Vaughan drew level right before the half on a penalty kick.
Gutierrez gave the Mavericks a one-goal advantage with his first goal of the trip five minutes into the second half. Junior
Fred Frimpong sent a ball to Ayats near the penalty area. Ayats then played a square pass to Gutierrez who then blasted a left-footed shot into the upper left corner for a 2-1 lead.

Elvir Ibisevic sealed the victory with his fourth goal of the week. Sophomore
Oliver Bihuniak directed a pass towards the 18-yard box where Ibisevic beat a pair of defenders before slipping the ball past the recovering defense for the 3-1 advantage.
