OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha men's soccer head coach
Bob Warming announced today that forward
Elvir Ibisevic has signed a contract with NK Celje, a first division professional team in Slovenia, and will not return for his junior season with the Mavericks.
"Elvir is a talent," said Warming. "He was super sharp on our recent Canada trip and scored four goals in four matches against good competition. We wish him all the best in his life and career and look forward to continuing to help other talented players reach their full potential."
Ibisevic led the Mavericks with nine goals and 19 points last season, appearing in 18 games and starting 16. He tied for the Summit League lead in goals. The native of Johnston, Iowa, was a first team All-Summit selection, the Summit's Offensive Player of the Week twice and the NCAA National Player of the Week as well. He was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Second Team.
Ibisevic scored the first hat trick in program history against Virginia Tech on Aug. 27 and finished the game with a school record for goals and points (9) in a game. His hat trick was the second-fastest to start a game in NCAA history. He leaves the program ranked fifth with 30 career points. He's tied for third all-time with 13 goals and tied for second with six game-winning goals.
The Mavericks open their season with the South Omaha Classic, an exhibition game against Creighton, on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Caniglia Field.
