#MavericksInCanada Blog: Post #1
by Stevie Siy
Bonjour from Montréal! This is
Stevie Siy, #2 on the men's soccer team, coming at you after our first full day abroad, with the first installment of our daily blog posts.
Our day began bright and early at 8:30 a.m. with a lovely continental breakfast here at the Residence Inn. From there, we were dismissed until Noon, when were given our first real opportunity to go out and see some of the city: it was grocery shopping time. Contrary to popular belief, grocery stores are very similar around the globe. However, the language barrier made it a bit tough for some of us to find the bare necessities. For example, it took me, a one-time Chancellor's List student, at least 15 minutes to find peanut butter. Once shopping was done, the competition for who could make the prettiest pregame meal began. Of course, mixed into all of this were the all important FIFA World Cup games. Vamos Argentina, by the way.
After a couple hours to rest and let the food settle, we left for our first match north of the border. We were on our way to play CS Longueuil. After a quick drive full of opportunities to people watch, we kicked off our match at about 7 p.m. The highlights of the match were definitely my assist to Elvir and the penalty kick Matt saved, but shoutout to Fred for scoring (and Diego with the assist). After the game we had a cool opportunity to take a group photo with the other team, a true embodiment of sportsmanship.
Sadly, this concludes our first day here, but stay tuned for more about our whole trip here in Canada! Real quick, shoutout to my momma since I know she will undoubtedly read this!
Thanks, and au revoir!
