DENVER -- The Omaha women's tennis team had its season come to an end in the semifinal round of the Summit League Championships Friday afternoon, falling 4-2 to South Dakota.
Omaha claimed the day's first point when it secured wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles slots. The No. 2 duo of
Savanna Crowell and
Natalie Lorentz defeated Barbora Kollarova and Nanette Nylund, 6-2, and the No. 1 team of
Michelle Lo and
Janelle Wilson followed by doubling up Jana Lazarevic and Anastasia Bondarenko, 6-3.
But South Dakota picked up the pace in singles competition to win four matches en route to the overall match win. Lorentz tallied a point for Omaha at No. 4 by defeating Bondarenko, 6-2, 6-3.
"This was a great match all around," head coach
Adam Summitt said. "I'm disappointed our season comes to an end today. We played great in doubles to get us going. We knew South Dakota was going to be physically and mentally tough. They just played a little better than we did today.
"This group was a determined bunch. They had a long season and credit them for putting their names in the Omaha history books. I know we will use this as motivation for next year."
Omaha finishes the 2018 campaign with a record of 13-11 (4-2 Summit League).
