SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Omaha women's tennis team capped the regular season Sunday morning, earning a 7-0 victory over South Dakota State. The win improves the Mavericks to 13-10 (4-1 Summit League), while the Jackrabbits drop to 0-18 (0-5). Omaha finishes the regular season with a winning record for the first time in its seven-year Division I era.
Omaha claimed two out of the three doubles matches to clinch the first point of the match. The No. 1 team of
Michelle Lo and
Janelle Wilson swept Morgan and Sidney Brower, 6-0. The No. 3 duo of
Emily Behling and
Rylee Tucker followed suit with a 6-0 win of their own over Theodora Kyriakopoulou and Katerina Tretyakova.
Omaha carried its success into singles competition by sweeping all six matches to secure the win.
Marie Kapelevich ousted Morgan Brower at the No. 3 position, 6-0, 6-3, and
Janelle Wilson defeated Kyriakopoulou at No. 2, 6-0, 6-0.
Michelle Lo then triumphed over Tretyakova at No. 1, 6-2, 6-3, marking her 100th career win across singles and doubles competition. She is just the third Maverick in school history to achieve the feat.
The Mavericks rounded it out with wins at the Nos. 4, 6 and 5 positions:
Natalie Lorentz (6-3, 6-2),
Rylee Tucker (6-2, 6-1) and
Emily Behling (6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (12-10), respectively.
"This was a great win to end the regular season for our players," head coach
Adam Summitt said. "This has been a great season, and we are excited to keep it going at the conference tournament. We look forward to continue making history for this program."
Omaha returns to the courts for its first appearance at the Summit League Championships, April 27-28, in Denver, Colo.
