FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Omaha men's tennis team dropped a doubleheader to No. 38 Arkansas Sunday evening at the Billingsley Tennis Center. The Mavericks fell 5-0 in the opener before losing a 4-0 decision in the nightcap.
With the losses, Omaha is now 8-14 overall, while Arkansas improved to 12-11.
Arkansas 5, Omaha 0
The Mavericks got off to a slow start as they dropped the doubles point.
Matt Dunn and
Luke Moorhead fell 6-0 at No. 3 to Josh Howard-Tripp and Alex Reco.
Razvan Grigorescu and
Nathan Reekie lost 6-1 to Oscar Mesquida and Adam Sanjurjo at No. 1.
Abdoul Ouattara and
Alex Woodward dropped a close 7-6 (5) match at No. 2.
The Razorbacks continued their momentum into singles sweeping four matches. At No. 1, Grigorescu fell 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4) to Mesquida. Moorhead fell 6-1, 7-6 (3) at No. 6 to Branch Terrell.
Arkansas 4, Omaha 0
Omaha pushed Arkansas in doubles in the second match but came up short. Moorhead and Dunn fell 6-2 to Jose Salazar and Josh Bortnick at No. 3. Ouattara and Woodward lost another close match, 6-4, to Howard-Tripp and Reco.
Woodward took the first set against Reco, 6-1, but lost the next two sets 6-1, 6-4. Reekie lost the first set to Howard-Tripp, 6-0, rallied to win the second set but dropped the third set. Sanjurjo clinched the match for the Razorbacks with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ouattara at No. 2.

The Mavericks return to the court on Wednesday, April 4 against Summit League foe Valparaiso. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
