MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – The Omaha women's tennis team surrendered a road decision to Grand Valley State Saturday afternoon, falling 5-2. The loss drops the Mavericks to 10-9 (2-0 Summit League), while the Lakers improve to 18-3 (10-0 GLIAC).
With there being limited court time and availability, the match started with singles play, where GVSU captured four out of the six matches to clinch the match. Omaha managed a pair of victories with
Natalie Lorentz at No. 4 over Abby Perkins, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, and
Janelle Wilson at No. 2 over Allie Sweeney, 7-6, 2-6, 6-2.
The Lakers claimed victory on all three doubles courts to ultimately win the match, 5-2.
"This was not the result that we wanted today," head coach
Adam Summitt said. "We were forced to mix up the order of play due to time constraints, and I think that put us in a loop. But we fought hard and did our best. GVSU is a very good team, and they just played better."
Omaha returns to action on Saturday, March 31, traveling to Saint Louis for an 11 a.m. match in St. Louis, Mo.
