GRIFFITH, Ind. – The Omaha women's tennis team captured an exciting 4-3 decision over Valparaiso on Friday afternoon. With their fifth win in six matches, the Mavericks improve to 10-8 (2-0 Summit League). The loss drops the Crusaders to 5-6 overall.

The Mavericks clinched the doubles point by sweeping all three doubles matches. The No. 2 pair of Natalie Lorentz and Savanna Crowell toppled Meg Modesto and Randi Wind, 6-1. Marie Kapelevich and Emily Behling, playing at No. 3, doubled up Dao Sysouvanh and Jordan Kopfer, 6-3, and the No. 1 duo of Michelle Lo and Janelle Wilson battled past Claire Czerwonka and Jelena Vujanic, 7-6.

In singles competition, Omaha won three out of the six matches to claim victory, 4-3. The No. 6 match belonged to Rylee Tucker as she defeated Kopfer, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4. Next, at No. 4, Lorentz triumphed over Sysouvanh, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3. Kapelevich clinched the match after she battled by Modesto, 1-6, 6-4, 7-5.

"Valparaiso threw everything they had at us today," head coach Adam Summitt said. "They are a tough team and were scrappy. We stayed in control and didn't worry about missed shots or Valpo playing better. Our players have really matured over the year, especially our freshmen. To have all three of them playing like upperclassmen is great to see.  I'm very proud of the team and the fight they showed."

Omaha returns to action Saturday, March 24 at 11 a.m. as it takes on Grand Valley State from Michigan City, Ind.
