BEAUMONT, Texas – The Omaha men's tennis team stopped its five-match losing side Monday afternoon, topping Lamar 5-2 at the Thompson Family Tennis Center. With the win, the Mavericks improved to 6-12 while the Cardinals dropped to 3-10.
Omaha jumped out to a 1-0 lead over Lamar with a strong doubles performance. Sophomores
Razvan Grigorescu and
Nathan Reekie got by Sebastian Santibanez and Arthur Serafim at No. 1, 6-3. Junior

Abdoul Ouattara claimed the doubles point with a 7-6 (3) victory over Nicolas Mayr and Roy Stepanov at No. 3.
The momentum swung back to the Cardinals early in the singles competition. Lamar won straight set matches at No. 5 and No. 6 to take a 2-1 lead.
Omaha evened the match at 2-2 when Woodward defeated Logan Powell 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4. The Mavericks regained the lead as Reekie got by Serafim 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3.
The final two matches came down to third sets to decide the victor. At No. 2, Ouattara dropped the first set in a tiebreaker, 6-7 (4), before rallying to win the next two sets 6-3, 6-3. Grigorescu lost the first set 6-1 but came back to win the final two sets 7-6 (1), 6-4.

The Mavericks will play a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 20 against Prairie View A&M. The first match is set to start at 10 a.m. and the second match will begin at 3 p.m.
