Mavericks Tied For 14th After Day One at GCU

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Omaha men's golf team is in a tie for 14th after the first day of play at the Grand Canyon Invitational on Friday.

The Mavericks shot team rounds of 301 and 307 for a total of 608, putting them in a tie with Columbia after the first two rounds at the 54-hole event at the GCU Golf Course.  Missouri leads the tournament with a total of 557.  Pacific and UC Riverside are tied for second at 565.

Cole Christain and David Huxham lead the Mavericks in scoring and are tied for 36th in the field of 93 golfers with a total of 146.  Christain shot rounds of 72 and 74 while Huxham had back-to-back cards of 73.

Thirawat Chantrakantanond is third on the team and tied for 82nd with a score of 156 that includes rounds of 77 and 79.  Jonah Wright is next after shooting 79 and 81 for a total of 160, good for a tie for 89th.

Sam Musch finished the scoring for UNO, shooting 80 and 85 for a total of 165.

The final round begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
