TULSA, Okla. – The Omaha men's tennis team lost a 5-2 decision to the University of Tulsa on Sunday afternoon at the Case Tennis Center. With the loss, the Mavericks are now 5-11 (0-2 Summit League) on the season, while the Golden Hurricane improved to 9-10 (1-2 AAC).
Tulsa opened the match by taking the doubles point. Mitchell Pritchard and Louis Corker stopped Omaha's
Matt Dunn and
Luke Moorhead 6-1 at No. 3. The duo of
Razvan Grigorescu and
Nathan Reekie leveled the score with a 6-4 victory over Joshua Goodger and Jarod Hing at No. 1. Majed Kilani and Lucca Baptista claimed the doubles point for Tulsa with a 7-5 win over
Abdoul Ouattara and
Alex Woodward at No. 2.
Omaha could not gain momentum once singles play started as Tulsa won three straight matched to clinch the victory. Ouattara lost a 6-2, 6-2 decision to No. 71 Goodger at No. 2. Dunn fell 60, 6-1 at No. 4 to Hing. Grigorescu lost a straight-set match to No. 118 Kilani the top singles position.
The Mavericks rallied to win a pair of matches at No. 5 and No. 6 in split sets.
Marko Minic stopped Borris Kamdem 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (6) at No. 6. Woodward then defeated Corker at No. 5, 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (7). Reekie lost a close contest at No. 3 to Baptista, 7-6 (3), 6-4.
