Omaha Suffers 5-2 Loss to Drake

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Drake University on Sunday evening at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2.  The Mavericks' Matt Dunn and Luke Moorhead picked up a 6-3 victory over Tom Hands and Ben Clark at No. 3.

Drake's Tom Hands defeated Abdoul Ouattara, 6-2, 6-2 to put the Bulldogs up 2-0.  DU then took matches at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to clinch the match.  The Mavericks got on the board with a split set at No. 3.  Nathan Reekie lost the first set 6-3 before winning the second set 6-3.  Reekie then topped Barny Thorold in a super tiebreaker 10-6.  Razvan Grigorescu rallied from a set down to defeat Vinny Gillespie 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (4).

With the loss, the Mavericks are now 1-5 overall and 0-1 in Summit League play.  The Bulldogs improved to 4-4 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.

Omaha returns to the court on Saturday, Feb. 10, against Nebraska.  First serve is set for 9:30 a.m. in Lincoln, Neb.
