DES MOINES, Iowa – The Omaha men's tennis team fell to New Mexico, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
New Mexico got off to a hot start by taking the doubles points with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. The Lobos built a 3-0 lead with straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles.
Razvan Grigorescu put Omaha on the board with a split set win at No. 1. Grigorescu topped Bart Van Leijsen 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-1.
Omaha edged closer when
Marko Minic won a hard-fought match against Michael Tran at No. 6, 7-5, 7-6 (5). New Mexico clinched the match with split set victories at No. 3 and No. 5.
With the loss, the Mavericks are now 1-4 on the season while the Lobos improve to 2-2.
Omaha will have another quick turnaround, as the Mavericks host Drake on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
