DES MOINES, Iowa – The Omaha men's tennis team lost a 4-3 decision to UAB on Saturday evening at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
UAB claimed the doubles point by winning two matches.
Razvan Grigorescu and
Alex Woodward defeated Henry Paiste and Giovani Pasini 6-3 at No. 2.
Matt Dunn and
Luke Moorhead dropped a close match at No. 3. Tim Dollman and Stefan Gonzalez then clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 (5) win over
Abdoul Ouattara and
Nathan Reekie at No. 1.
The Blazers won singles matches at No. 5 and No. 6 and took a 3-0 lead. The Mavericks started their comeback when Ouattara won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 over Gonzalez. Reekie continued UNO's momentum with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3. Dunn leveled the match at 3-3 with a 7-6 (3), 6-4 victory at No. 4. Grigorescu won his first set 6-2 before Dollman rallied to win the next two 6-2, 6-4 to clinch the dual victory.
"This one hurts, but the guys are making some great strides," said head coach
Tyson Thomas. "It's bittersweet at the moment, but I'm excited with what I am starting to see from this team."
Omaha returns to the court Sunday morning against George Washington. First serve is set for 9 a.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
