OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team improved to 4-6 on the year, as the Mavericks picked up wins over North Dakota, Doane and Midland Sunday at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
Omaha 4, North Dakota 0
The Mavericks opened the day with a 4-0 win over the Fighting Hawks. Omaha opened strong by claiming the doubles point.
Razvan Grigorescu and
Alex Woodward picked up a quick 6-1 win over Davide Callegari and Ben Yeacker at No. 2.
Matt Dunn and
Luke Moorhead clinched the doubles point at No. 3 with a 6-1 win over Alex Mailes and Annei Laska.
The momentum carried over to singles action as Omaha would win three-straight courts to take a 4-0 lead and the match. Ouattara earned a quick 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 to put the Mavericks up 2-0. Dunn polished off Mailes 6-0, 6-2 before Moorhead clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Yeacker.
Omaha 7, Doane 0
Omaha then claimed a 7-0 victory over the Doane Tigers. The Mavericks swept the doubles matches to forge ahead 1-0. Grigorescu and Woodward stopped Alejandro Benitez and Brody Lauby, 6-2, at No. 2. Ouattara and Reekie claimed the doubles point with a 6-1 win over Ignacio Morell and Grayson McCartney at No. 1. Dunn and Moorhead made it a clean sweep with a 6-1 win at No. 3.
UNO then swept all six singles matches, losing a combined 10 games along the way. Grigorescu cruised past Morell at No. 1, 6-0, 6-0. Ouattara made it 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 over Benitez.
Marko Minic clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Lauby at No. 6. Dunn then stopped McCartney 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3. Moorhead and Woodward completed the sweep with straight-set wins at No. 5 and No. 4, respectively.
Omaha 7, Midland 0
The Mavericks capped off a perfect day with a 7-0 sweep of the Midland Warriors. Ouattara and Reekie again were first off the court with a 6-1 win over Sacha Borel and Dylan Hatanelas at No. 1. Dunn and Moorhead stopped Christian Slupe and Ryan Vitera 6-3 at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point. Grigorescu and Woodward won 6-3 at No. 2.
Ouattara continued his solid play by claiming a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 over Borel. Reekie then cruised by Hatanelas 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. Moorhead secured the win for UNO with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Alex Zoller at No. 5. Dunn, Grigorescu and Minic each claimed straight-set wins to complete the sweep.
