OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to the Creighton Bluejays on Thursday at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
The Mavericks didn't let dropping the doubles point affect them early in singles with
Abdoul Ouattara topping Stratton Brown 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles to tie the match up at 1-1. Jose Oscar Diaz put Creighton up 2-1 with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over
Marko Minic at No. 6. CU took a 3-1 lead when Alex Koca beat
Matt Dunn in split sets 2-6, 6-2, 7-5.
The Mavericks managed to tie it up at 3-3 with a pair of split set victories at No. 1 and No. 2.
Razvan Grigorescu overcame from being down a set to defeat Brooks Kendall 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-1.
Nathan Reekie won the first set 6-2 before dropping the second set in a tiebreaker 6-7 (8). Reekie rallied and breezed past Armando Gandini 6-1 in the third set. Creighton's Daniel Lopez-Ray was able to slip past
Alex Woodward in a thrilling split set match to give the Bluejays the 4-3 win.
Omaha will have a quick turnaround, as the Mavericks will square off against New Mexico on Saturday, Feb. 3 in Des Moines, Iowa.
