Six Mavericks Collect Summit League Honors

OMAHA, Neb. – Six Omaha men's soccer players were honored with 2018 all-league recognition from the Summit League, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Senior Denzel Woods and sophomore Diego Gutierrez were named to the All-Summit First Team, freshman Martin Veys, junior Marcos Bautista and junior Ugo Tritz earned All-Summit Second team honors.  Bautista, Veys and sophomore Mitch Hammer were selected to the Summit League All-Newcomer Team.

Gutierrez, an All-Newcomer selection last season, led the Mavericks in points (20), goals (seven) and assists (six).  In league statistics, he ranked third in points and fourth in goals and assists.  Gutierrez also was named two-time Summit League Offensive Player of the Week.

Woods, who started all 14 games this season, anchored an Omaha defense that allowed only 18 goals in the regular season.  He chipped in six points on two goals and two assists.

Veys totaled 11 points on five goals and an assist.  He appeared in 14 games and started 12 and scored two game-winning goals.

Bautista started 14 matches and totaled 1,139 minutes this season.  He added three points on a goal and an assist.

Tritz posted a 6-3-1 record with four shutouts.  He allowed 11 goals for a 1.01 goals-against average and made 40 saves for a .784 save percentage.

Hammer appeared in 14 games with 12 starts in his first season with Omaha.  He chipped in five points on two goals and an assist.

The Mavericks return to action tomorrow against Purdue Fort Wayne in The Summit League Men's Soccer Championship as the tournament's No. 2 seed.  Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. (CT) at the University of Denver Soccer Complex.
