MACOMB, Ill. – The Omaha swimming and diving team tallied its first dual meet win of the season at Western Illinois.
Omaha surged past the Fighting Leathernecks by a score of 210.5-101.5.
"After an early morning practice and a six-hour bus ride, I thought our team performed very well tonight," said head coach 
Todd Samland. "With this being our third meet, we wanted to put swimmers in some different events and I was happy with the outcomes. Western Illinois has some very talented athletes which made for some exciting races."
Grete Baker led the way for the Mavericks with wins in 1,000-yard freestyle (10:56.06) and in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.76). In the 200-yard freestyle, 
Kylie Vermeire (1:58.83) and 
Lauryn Schieffer (2:00.68) finished first and second, while 
Kirsten Kracke tallied a top finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.37.
The duo of 
Lizzy Giese and 
Bethany Gatlin finished first and second in the 200-yard butterfly with times of 2:13.15 and 2:15.00. In the 50-yard freestyle, 
Rachel Morrow won the event with a time of 24.80, followed by 
Madison Ewald in second with a time of 25.32.
Vermiere tallied another event victory in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:13.93, while Morrow earned her second win of the meet in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:14.39.
Jacquelyn Gaworski, 
Annika Clinton and 
Emma Weis garnered the top three spots in the 3-meter dive with scores of 217.73, 215.63 and 201.60, respectively.
Omaha capped off the event with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the team of Morrow, Abraham, Vermiere and Kracke finished with a time of 3:39.05.
The Mavericks continue the road slate Saturday, Nov. 3, at Illinois State with a 2:30 p.m. start time.
