Men’s Soccer Falls 1-0 to No. 9 Denver in Summit League Finals

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's soccer team fell in the Summit League Championship final to Denver 1-0 at CIBER Field on Saturday.

The Mavericks end their postseason run with a record of 7-8-1.  The Pioneers improved to 15-3-2 overall and earned the Summit League's automatic berth into the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship.

Denver scored the game-winner in the 15th minute.  The Pioneers' Kenny Akamatsu intercepted an errant pass in the offensive third.  He then beat a pair of UNO defenders and placed his shot into the lower left corner to give DU the 1-0 lead.

Denver had a chance to add to its lead in the 28th minute.  Stefan DeLeone's shot headed to the lower left corner until Omaha goalkeeper Ugo Tritz got a hand on the shot and pushed it off the post.

Akamatsu had a pair scoring chances saved by Tritz in the 34th minute and another shot cleared off the line by a Maverick defender.

Omaha had a series of chances to level the game in the game's final five minutes.  Mitch Hammer's shot floated over the crossbar in the 85th minute.  Nil Ayats shot in the 88th minute went wide of goal.  Ayats then hit the crossbar in the 90th minute and bounded away from goal as Denver claimed the win, 1-0.

•    Omaha outshot Denver 14-12, but the Pioneers held a 7-0 advantage in shots on goal.
•    The Mavericks led 2-1 in corner kicks and 6-0 in saves.
•    Ayats took a game-high six shots.
•    Hammer added three shots.
•    Tritz made five saves in 90 minutes and finished the season with a 7-4-1 record.
•    There were 23 fouls and three yellow cards in Saturday's match.

•    Ayats, Marcos Bautista and Billy Hoffmann earned spots on the Summit League All-Tournament Team.
•    Diego Gutierrez finished the season with 21 points on seven goals and seven assists.
