Mavericks Complete Season Sweep Over North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Omaha volleyball earned a season sweep over the North Dakota Fighting Hawks with a 3-1 win on the road Friday evening.

The Mavericks defeated UND in four sets (25-22, 25-16, 23-25, 25-20) and improved to 14-9 overall with a 9-2 mark in league play.

Leaders for Omaha
Isabella Sade tallied 14 kills on .609 hitting and six blocks, while Sadie Limback had a team-high 16 kills and five blocks. Sydney Case had a match-high 45 assists.

Notes
  • Sade notched her third straight match with a .500 hitting percentage or better.
  • She also had double-digit kills for the fifth straight match, which ties her streak for the second time (last time with five straight matches of double-digit kills was Aug. 31 – Sept. 7).
  • Omaha improves to 46-13 all-time against UND and sweeps the season series.
Inside Set 1
Both teams were neck-and-neck midway through the opening set. North Dakota tallied a 5-0 run and took a 16-14 lead. The Mavericks, however, responded with a 4-0 spurt and led 18-16. From there, Omaha never relinquished the lead even though the Fighting Hawks cut it to one (23-22). After an Omaha timeout, the Mavericks scored two straight off a Limback kill and a UND attack error to take the set.

Inside Set 2
A pair of kills by Sade, an error, a Limback kill and a Courtney Morehead ace gave Omaha a 5-0 lead to start. That proved to be the spark for the Mavericks as they never trailed for the remainder of the match and built a 19-10 lead off back-to-back Limback kills and a service error by UND. The Mavericks claimed the set off three straight points and took a 2-0 lead in the match.

Inside Set 3
Omaha fell behind by as many as seven in the set (12-5), but battled back to tie it at 16-all. A 3-0 run gave the Mavericks a 19-17 lead, but the Fighting Hawks stayed in the match. With a 23-20 lead in the set, the Mavericks could not close it out as North Dakota scored five straight out of a timeout to force a fourth set.

Inside Set 4
With a 7-1 run to open the match, Omaha continued off that momentum and increased the lead to seven (12-5). North Dakota refused to go away and propelled a 7-2 run to cut the Omaha lead to one (17-16). The Mavericks, however, did not let that waiver them and closed out the match with a 4-1 run off an ace by Sade and a Claire Leonard kill.
