Men’s Tennis Continues Fall Season at ITA Central Regionals

TULSA, Okla. – The Omaha men's tennis team continued its fall season at the ITA Central Regionals at the Case Tennis Center.

Razvan Grigorescu advanced to the round of 16 in singles play, while the doubles pairing of Abdoul Ouattara and Davis Lawley also reached the round 16.

Grigorescu, seeded 13th in the tournament, started his run with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Kenji Yanaba (SLU).  He then upset No. 9 Max Stewart of Oklahoma in split sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.  Grigorescu lost a hard-fought battle to Minnesota's Jackson Allen 6-4, 6-4.

Ouattara finished the tournament with a 2-2 mark.  He beat Tulsa's Daniel Siddall 6-4, 7-6 in the opening round, but fell in split sets to Orel Ovil of Wichita State in split sets 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.  In the consolation round, he beat UND's Pavle Drobnjakovic before defeating Minnesota's Sebastian Vile.

Lawley topped Nick Campbell in split sets 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in the first round.  He then lost a 6-3, 6-1 match to No. 1 seed Aleksandre Rakshi of Oklahoma.

Matt Dunn opened the tournament with a 6-4, 6-4 win over UMKC's Daniel Izadifar.  Dunn dropped a 6-3, 7-6 match to Luke Hammond of Oklahoma State.  He then topped Josh Bortnick of Arkansas 6-4, 6-4.

Nathan Reekie topped Josh McDermott of UMKC 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.  Reekie then lost matches Murkel Dellien of Wichita State and Vladyslan Lobak of Minnesota.  He ended the tournament with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ignacio Tintore of Saint Louis.

In doubles action, Lawley and Ouattara became the first Omaha doubles team to advance to the round of 16 at Regionals.  The duo defeated Austin Williams and Andre Caligiana of Wichita State 8-7.  After receiving a walkover, Lawley and Ouattara fell 8-5 to Tulsa's Kamdem/Thelwall-Jones.
