Omaha Wraps Up Non-Conference Play against Cal State Fullerton

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's soccer team wraps up non-conference play on Tuesday, Oct. 23, against Cal State Fullerton.  Kickoff will be at 6 p.m. at Caniglia Field.

From the Touchline
•    Omaha stopped Florida Gulf Coast 2-0 last Saturday.
•    Denzel Woods and Mitch Hammer each scored a goal for the Mavericks.
•    Diego Gutierrez assisted on Hammer's goal.
•    The Mavericks are 2-5-1 in non-conference play and 2-4-1 at Caniglia Field.
•    Omaha had road matches against Drake (Oct. 6) and SMU (Oct. 9) canceled due to field conditions.
•    Gutierrez leads the Mavericks in points (19), goals (7), assists (5), shots (38) and shots on goal (20) through 11 contests.  He is third in The Summit League in points, goals, assists and shots.
•    Junior Ugo Tritz has allowed the second-fewest goals (eight) and save percentage (.805) in The Summit League.
•    The Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll picked Omaha to finish second.  The Mavericks garnered 22 total points, including two first-place votes.
•    Junior Seth Rinderknecht and sophomore Stevie Siy earned spots on the league's Players to Watch list.
•    UNO captured the 2017 Summit League Tournament championship by defeating regular-season champion Denver 9-8 in an 11 round shootout.  The victory allowed Omaha to qualify for the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament for the first time in program history.
•    UNO became a member of the Summit League in 2012 and claimed a share of two league regular-season crowns and one postseason tournament title in seven seasons.

Scouting the Omaha Mavericks
Omaha is 4-6-1 overall and 2-1 in The Summit League.  The Mavericks defeated Florida Gulf Coast last Saturday 2-0.

Diego Gutierrez leads the Mavericks in every scoring category this season with 19 points on seven goals and five assists.  Martin Veys is next with seven points on three goals and an assist.  Mitch Hammer and Denzel Woods have four points each.  Hammer has two goals, while Woods has a goal and two assists.  Marcos Bautista has three points on a goal and an assist.  Billy Hoffmann also has one goal.  Seth Rinderknecht has two assists.

Ugo Tritz has appeared in eight games with seven starts and has a 4-2-1 record.  Tritz has allowed eight goals and made 33 saves with three shutouts.  He also earned a Summit League Defensive Player of the Week last week.  Matt Smith has started four matches and has a 0-4 record.  Smith has allowed seven goals with eight saves.

Bob Warming is in his first season as head coach of the Mavericks, posting a 4-6-1 record.  Before Omaha, Warming had stops at Penn State (2010-17), Creighton (1990-94, 2001-09), St. Louis (1997-2000), Old Dominion (1996), Charlotte (1982-88), Barry (1977-81) and Transylvania (1976).  He is the third-winningest active NCAA Division I coach with 465 victories.

Scouting the Cal State Fullerton Titans
•    Cal State Fullerton is 6-5-6 overall and 2-3-1 in Big West play.  They are 2-3 in the last five matches.
•    The Titans are 3-3-3 on the road this season.
•    CSF is currently in a three-way tie for fourth place with UC Davis and CSUN heading into the last week of the regular season. Fullerton has a 2-3-1 record in Big West play with seven points with just one conference game remaining this week against UC Riverside Saturday night.
•    CSF outscores (22-20) and outshoots (215-191) the opposition this season.
•    Head coach George Kuntz is in his fifth season with Cal State Fullerton with a 49-38-21 mark.  Kuntz's career record is 294-220-82 over 29 seasons with stops at Cal Lutheran, UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton.

Tracking the Titans
•    No. 9 Samuel Goni (F, RSr.) leads the team with 14 points on six goals and two assists.
•    No. 19 Ross McPhie (MF, Sr.) has a team-leading five assists and two goals.
•    No. 20 Christian Pinzon (MF, So.) has four goals.
•    No. 10 Robert Coronado (MF, RSr.) adds six points on a goal and four assists.  Coronado is tied for ninth all-time in the history of the program with 15 assists.
•    No. 97 Paul-Andre Guerin (GK, Jr.) has started every match with a 6-5-6 mark.  He has a 1.09 goals-against average and a .778 save percentage.  Guerin is now in sole possession of fifth all-time in the history of the program with 14 clean sheets.

Series History
Tuesday's meeting between Omaha and Cal State Fullerton is the third all-time with Fullerton holding a 2-0 advantage.  In the last meeting, the Titans topped the Mavericks 3-1 on Sept. 21, 2014, in Fullerton, Calif.

Omaha returns to the road for the final time in the regular season this Saturday against Oral Roberts.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Case Soccer Complex in Tulsa, Okla.
