Omaha Hosts Campbell for Midweek Nonconference Tilt

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's soccer team steps out of Summit League play this Wednesday, Oct. 3, to welcome Campbell to Caniglia Field at 7 p.m.

From the Touchline
•    Omaha returns to Caniglia Field after picking up a 4-1 Summit League road victory against Purdue Fort Wayne.
•    The Mastodons held the No. 8 spot in last week's NCAA RPI list, while the Mavericks were at No. 115.
•    Sophomore Diego Gutierrez led UNO with a career-best five points on two goals and an assist against PFW.
•    Junior Marcos Bautista added his first goal and assist as a Maverick, while freshman Martin Veys added his third goal of the year.
•    Gutierrez leads the Mavericks in points (14), goals (5), assists (4), shots (23) and shots on goal (12) through seven contests.
•    Gutierrez is third in the Summit League in points and assists.  He is also tied for fourth in The Summit League in goals.
•    Junior Ugo Tritz ranks second in fewest goals allowed (7), fourth in save percentage (.731) and goals-against average (1.56) and fifth in saves (19).
•    Sophomore Matt Smith has allowed the fewest goals in the league (four).
•    Omaha leads the Summit League in average home attendance (680 per match) and is second in total attendance (3,401).
•    The Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll picked Omaha to finish second.  The Mavericks garnered 22 total points, including two first-place votes.
•    Junior Seth Rinderknecht and sophomore Stevie Siy earned spots on the league's Players to Watch list.
•    UNO captured the 2017 Summit League Tournament championship by defeating regular-season champion Denver 9-8 in an 11 round shootout.  The victory allowed Omaha to qualify for the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament for the first time in program history.
•    UNO became a member of the Summit League in 2012 and claimed a share of two league regular-season crowns and one postseason tournament title in seven seasons.

Scouting the Omaha Mavericks
Omaha is 2-5 overall and 1-1 in Summit League action, following a 4-1 road victory against Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday.  The Mavericks were 7-1-2 at home last season, but are 1-4 this season.

Diego Gutierrez leads the Mavericks in every scoring category this season with 14 points on five goals and four assists.  Martin Veys is next with six points on three goals, while Marcos Bautista has three points on a goal and an assist.  Senior Billy Hoffmann has the other UNO goal.  Denzel Woods has two assists while junior Seth Rinderknecht as an assist.

Ugo Tritz has appeared in five games with four starts.  Tritz is 2-2 with a 1.56 goals-against average and .731 save percentage.  Smith is 0-3-0 with a 1.60 goals-against average and .500 save percentage.  Tritz is 1-2 with a 1.71 goals-against average and .750 save percentage.  He also has the team's lone shutout this season.

Bob Warming is in his first season as head coach of the Mavericks, posting a 2-5-0 record.  Prior to Omaha, Warming had stops at Penn State (2010-17), Creighton (1990-94, 2001-09), St. Louis (1997-2000), Old Dominion (1996), Charlotte (1982-88), Barry (1977-81) and Transylvania (1976).  He is the third-winningest active NCAA Division I coach with 463 victories.

Scouting the Campbell Camels
The Camels enter Wednesday's match on a two-match losing skid after falling to Presbyterian 3-1 last Friday.  Campbell is 5-4-0 this season and 2-1-0 in Big South action.

Senior JJ Donnelly paces the squad with five goals and 12 points.  Bastien Oberli has two goals and six assists, while Thibaut Jacquel has two goals and five assists.

Sophomore Samuel Lechuga has started eight matches this season and has a 5-3 record with a 1.25 goals-against average and a .756 save percentage.  Junior Matt Karasinski is 0-1 with a 4.00 goals-against average and a .556 save percentage.

Head coach Dustin Fonder is in his fourth year at Campbell with a record of 29-31-3 and holds a career mark of 107-94-21 in 12 seasons.

Tracking the Camels
•    Campbell is second in the Big South standings with a 5-4 overall mark and a 2-1 conference mark.  High Point is the league leader with an 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
•    Campbell is 2-2 on the road and 0-1 at neutral sites.
•    The Camels have lost two-straight after having a five-match winning streak.
•    JJ Donnelly and sophomore Michael Barrow have combined to score the last four goals for CU.
•    The Camels average 2.67 goals while allowing 1.56 per match.
•    Donnelly and Bastien Oberli rank in the conference's top five in points.
•    Samuel Lechuga is second in the conference in saves (38) and save percentage.
•    The Big South's conference RPI ranks 23rd nationally, and Campbell ranks No. 127 in RPI according to the NCAA.

Series with Campbell
Omaha and Campbell will be meeting for the first time on Wednesday night.
