IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Omaha women's tennis team concluded play at the ITA Regionals.
In singles play,
Ines Absisan picked up a pair of wins in the qualifying rounds against Drake's Sophia Haleas (6-2, 6-3) and over Nebraska's Emma Worley (6-0, 7-5) to advance to the main draw.
Natalie Lorentz also notched two victories in the singles qualifier over Missouri State's Fati Khamissi (6-4, 6-2) and SEMO's Anais Emelie (2-6, 6-4, 10-8). In the single's main draw,
Janelle Wilson fell (6-1, 6-2) against Tulsa's Vera Pioner and against Missouri's Gabrielle Goldin in the consolation round (6-4, 7-6 (5)). Absisan went on to fall to Iowa's Samantha Mannix (6-1, 6-1) and Lorentz later dropped a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 match to Creighton's Ashley Ishimura.
Marie Kapelevich and
Emily Behling advanced to the doubles main draw after a qualifying win over St. Louis (8-3), but fell in the main draw (8-3) to Oklahoma.
Savanna Crowell and Lorentz also fell 8-7 (4) in the doubles main draw to Iowa.
"This was a good tournament to end the fall season," said head coach
Adam Summitt. "We statistically had our best ITA event in program history. We had some wins in qualifying round to get three girls in the main draw singles. Doubles went toe-to-toe with some great teams, and those matches were determined by only a few shots. I think we are in a great place right now as a program and ready to tackle the spring season in January."
With the ITA Regionals wrapped up, Omaha now sets its sights to the spring season, which consists of Summit League action.
