OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's soccer team fought Fort Wayne to a 1-1 draw in double overtime on Saturday evening at Caniglia Field.
The Mavericks are now 7-2-2 overall and 0-0-2 in Summit League play while the Mastodons move to 3-5-4 on the season and 0-1-1 in the conference.
Fort Wayne's first real quality look came in the 17th minute, and the Mastodons took advantage. Zach Tom controlled the ball just outside the 18 and fed Romain Lopez near the top of the box, who slotted his shot into the bottom corner and out of the reach of
Joseph Ghitis.
Omaha tied the game at 1-1 in the 47th minute after Fort Wayne was called for a foul in its penalty box.
Xavier Gomez stepped up and fired the penalty kick into the right side of the goal for his third tally of the season.
Denzel Woods looked to put the Mavericks in front in the 55th minute, but his shot went off the crossbar.
Elvir Ibisevic saw his head kept out of goal in the 80th minute.
Turning Point
The Maverick defense held the Mastodons without a shot for nearly 90 minutes after allowing the first goal of the game.
