Summitt Signs Transfer Walker for 2017-18

OMAHA, Neb. -- Head coach Adam Summitt announced Friday that junior college transfer Michelle Walker will join the Omaha women's tennis program in 2017-18.

A native of Tomball, Texas, Walker comes to the Mavericks after beginning her career at Tyler Junior College, where she was a two-year letterwinner. In 2017, her squad won the NJCAA national championship, and Walker appeared in the flight three doubles national semifinals. The previous season, Walker was the NJCAA runner-up in flight five singles and flight three doubles, and her team also finished as national runner-up.

Over her two seasons with the Apaches, Walker was 21-12 in singles and 28-15 in doubles. She was tabbed NJCAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week on April 10, 2016.

A standout in the classroom, Walker graduated magna cum laude with an associate's degree in mathematics from Tyler JC after carrying a 3.95 grade-point average. A member of the honors program, she was named to the NJCAA All-Academic Second Team and was an ITA Scholar-Athlete.

"We're excited to add Michelle to our incoming class," Summitt said. "She was part of a national championship team at Tyler Junior College, and her experience will help our team raise its level of play. She is an outstanding student who knows how to balance academics with tennis, which will fit in well with our culture."
