DENVER, Colo. – The Omaha men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Summit League foe Denver on Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops the Mavericks to 8-13 overall and 2-2 in the Summit League while the host Pioneers improve to 11-12 and 4-0 in the Summit League.
Denver earned the doubles point with two wins. Freshman Razvan Grigorescu and Colin Buckley fell to No. 60 Alex Gasson and Yannik James, 6-2. Pedro Del Valle and Wyatt Lovera stopped freshman Louis-Jonas Heizlsperger and senior John Ellis, 6-2.
In singles competition, freshman Nathan Reekie proved to the toughest match for the Pioneers as he was defeated by Diogo Rocha at No. 2, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5). Grigorescu dropped his first Summit League match of the season to James at No. 1, 6-4, 6-3.
Omaha returns to action at next weekend's Summit League Men's Tennis Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. The third-seeded Mavericks face No. 2 seed Oral Roberts on Friday, April 28 at 10 a.m. CT at the Park Tudor School Tennis Courts.
