OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Creighton Friday evening at Hanscom Tennis Center. The Mavericks move to 2-4 (0-0 Summit League) on the year, while the Bluejays improve to 3-3.
Freshman Razvan Grigorescu earned the first point of the match for Omaha at No. 1 singles. Grigorescu defeated Armando Gandini in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Nathan Reekie gave the Mavericks their second point of the night at No. 4 with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win over Brooks Kendall.
The Bluejays won four singles matches to clinch the match. At No. 3 singles, sophomore Matt Dunn lost to Alex Koca in split sets, 2-6, 7-5, 6-2, while sophomore Alex Woodward dropped a tight match at No. 6, 7-6, 7-5.
Creighton started the match by taking the doubles point. Woodward and freshman Louis-Jonas Heizlsperger dropped a 6-4 decision at No. 3 to Koca and Mac Mease. Dunn and Reekie lost in a tiebreaker to Aaron Chalstrom and Gandini, 7-6 (4). Grigorescu and Buckley picked up a 7-6 (4) win at No. 1 doubles over Kendall and Harrison Lang.
Omaha returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 12 against Drake. First serve is set for 4 p.m. at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
