CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Omaha swimming & diving team returned to the water Saturday afternoon, falling 189-111 to Northern Iowa at Glen F. Henry Pool.
Freshman
Naeleah Hadford won the first event title of her young career, leading the field in the 50 free (24.34). She also took third in the 100 free (53.56).
Junior
Annika Clinton came through with another triumph in the diving well, winning the 3-meter event (247.35) in addition to a second-place showing in the 1-meter event (244.10).
Sophomore
Rachel Morrow had a pair of runner-up finishes in the 200 free (1:57.56) and the 500 free (5:15.16), as did senior
Olivia McLain in the 200 fly (2:14.11) and 100 fly (57.95). Freshman
Rebecca Martini was second in both the 200 breast (2:27.62) and 200 IM (4:44.65) and third in the 200 fly (2:16.72).
Senior
Hilary Schieffer added a second-place performance in the 200 back (2:12.98), and
Brook Landt swam to second in the 100 breast (1:09.15).
Four Mavericks rounded it out with third-place finishes on the day: junior
Kylie Vermeire in the 1650 free (18:10.78), junior
Kirsten Kracke in the 100 back (1:00.72), junior Madi Ewald in the 500 free (25.02) and freshman
Elena Page in the 200 breast (2:31.79).
The Mavericks also took second in the 200 medley relay, as Page, McLain, Hadford and senior
Kendra Lair teamed up for a time of 1:50.35. In the 400 free relay, Omaha took second and third, with the A team of Hadford, Morrow, Kracke and junior
Kylene Abraham seizing the runner-up spot at 3:35.89. The B team of McLain, Ewald, Landt and senior
Cassandra Jahn was third with a time of 3:41.54.
"I'm proud of the resilience of our team," head coach
Todd Samland said. "We went up against a strong UNI team and came away with some well-earned wins. A few of our athletes also had lifetime-best swims. It's nice to see the hard work put in by the team produce good results."
Omaha returns to action in two weeks, with the divers headed to the Mizzou Invite (Nov. 16-18) in Columbia, Mo., and the swimmers competing at the Kansas Classic (Nov. 17-19) in Topeka, Kan.
