TULSA, Okla. – A small contingent of Omaha men's tennis players took part in The Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships earlier in the week.
Abdoul Ouattara went 1-1 in the pre-qualifying draw. Ouattara opened with a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win over Matt Story of Memphis. Ouattara then dropped a 6-3, 7-5 decision to Kenneth Boykin of Oral Roberts.
Nathan Reekie also went 1-1 in the pre-qualifier. Reekie dropped a split set match to Colin Markes of Texas 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. He bounced back in the consolation round with a split set win over Jiaqi Duan of the University of Troy 1-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2.
Razvan Grigorescu received the sixth seed in the qualifying bracket and finished 1-1. Grigorescu topped Stephan Koenigsfest of Purdue in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. He then dropped a straight-set decision to Arizona State's Tim Ruehl 6-1, 6-3.
Grigorescu and Ouattara teamed up and earned a spot in the qualifying doubles bracket. The duo battled third-seeded Mitch Harper and Henrik Korsgaard of Virginia Tech in the opening round. Omaha took the first set 6-1 before Virginia Tech rallied to win the next two sets 6-3, 1-0 (4).
The Mavericks will now prepare for the ITA Central Region Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., Oct. 19-22.
