WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – Two Mavericks finished in the top 10 to help the Omaha men's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Zach Johnson Invitational at Drake on Tuesday.
Kevin Gordon and
David Huxham each finished with a one-over par score of 72 in the third round, the second such round for each golfer in the tournament. Gordon closed the 54-hole event with a score of 218, five over par, which was good for fourth in the field of 68 golfers. Huxham posted a total of 221, eight over par, to finish in a tie for seventh.
As a team, the Mavericks put up a score of 896, the ninth-best 54-hole team score in school history. They shot 292 in round three which ties for the eighth-best round in school history.
Indian Hills Community College took home top honors with a score of 875. South Dakota was second at 880, and Drake was third at 890.
Sam Musch also shot 72 in round three to finish at 229. That tied him with teammate
Bank Chantrakantanond who fired a 76 in the final round. Both players finished in a tie for 34th.
Pat Ravn finished the scoring for UNO with a total of 243 that included a final round of 81.
Kelly Brown, playing as an individual, also closed the tournament with a round of 72 to finish at 225, good for a tie for 18th.
The Mavericks are back in action at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate at UMKC on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 9-10.
