OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team continued its fall schedule over the weekend at the Bluejay Invitational at the Koch Family Tennis Center.
Alex Woodward continued his strong play by finishing third in the Flight 'B' bracket. Woodward opened with a split set win over North Dakota's Davide Callegari 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. After dropping his next match to Creighton's Armando Gandini, Woodward rallied to defeat Michael Kritzinger of Northern Colorado in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
Marko Minic won the consolation bracket in Flight 'C'. Minic dropped his opening match to Northern Colorado's Ryan Hardin. He then beat Alejandro Benitez of Doane 6-2, 6-2 before topping South Dakota State's Alexander Reinke in split sets 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (3).
Luke Moorhead won the consolation bracket in Flight 'E'. After falling to South Dakota State's Aiden DeBoer, Moorhead stopped Elliott Abromeir of Doane 6-4, 6-2. He then stopped Arcane Boles of Doane 6-3, 6-4 to finish out the tournament.
In other singles action,
Matt Dunn finished 1-2 in Flight 'A' for the weekend with a win over Emerson Styles of South Dakota State.
In doubles action, Dunn and Moorhead won the consolation bracket in Flight 'A'. The pair opened with a 7-6 (3) loss to Creighton's Stratton Brown and Mac Mease. They then made quick work of SDSU's Aidan DeBoer/Henrique Stemmer, 6-2, and UND's Matt Hokanson/ Davide Callegari, 6-1.
Minic and Woodward went 1-2 in Flight 'B'. The duo lost a 6-4 decision to Cassell King and Nick Wade of Northern Colorado. They then stopped Grayson McCartney and Andrew Lawson of Doane 6-4 before falling 6-2 to Ryan Hardin and Michael Kritzinger of UNC.
The Mavericks wrap up their fall schedule in three weeks at the ITA Central Region Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., Oct 19-22.
