Omaha Takes on Crosstown Foe Creighton

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's soccer team will make the short trip down Dodge St. to visit crosstown foe Creighton on Monday, Sept. 5.  Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Morrison Stadium.

Maverick Quick Kicks (2-1-0, 0-0-0 Summit League)

  • Omaha returned home on Friday and defeated Drake, 3-0.
  • Fazlo Alihodzic led the Mavericks with a goal and two assists.
  • Seth Rinderknecht and Emmanuel Hamzat each scored their first goals in a Maverick jersey.
  • Elvir Ibisevic was credited with an assist on Omaha's third goal.
  • Joseph Ghitis picked up his first shutout and sixth of his career in the win.
  • Omaha returns eight starters and 13 lettermen from the 2015 squad which went 9-6-3 overall.
  • The Mavericks were picked to finish second in the Summit League this season.
  • Senior Mark Moulton returns as the leading point-scorer on the 2016 roster.  Moulton had 20 points on seven goals and six assists last season.
  • Assistant Coach Tim Walters played three seasons at Creighton.  He started 29 of the 53 matches he appeared in, tallying seven goals and seven assists over his final two seasons.
  • Head coach Jason Mims spent 10 years as an assistant coach at Creighton, helping then-head coach Bob Warming, create the Bluejays' program from the ground up. Mims helped lead Creighton to eight straight NCAA tournament appearances and six Missouri Valley Conference Championships.
  • Mims is in his sixth season as head coach of the Mavericks.

Bluejay Briefs (1-1-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST)

  • CU is 1-1-0 on the season with a 2-0 win over No. 25 Rutgers and a 1-0 loss to No. 2 Clemson.
  • The Bluejays home opener against San Francisco was canceled due to rain last Friday.
  • CU is currently ranked No. 8 in the latest NSCAA Coaches Poll.
  • Lucas Stauffer and Riggs Lennon have scored goals this year for the Jays.
  • Creighton returns five starters and 10 lettermen from last year's team.
  • The Bluejays were picked as the favorite to win the BIG EAST this season.
  • Ricardo Perez returns as the leading goal-scorer and with the most experience in a Bluejay uniform of any player on the 2016 roster.
  • CU lost three All-Americans from last season, including MAC Hermann Finalist Fabian Herbers.
  • Elmar Bolowich is in the sixth season as head coach of the Jays.
