OMAHA, Neb. – Despite winning three singles matches, the Omaha men's tennis team fell to IUPUI, 4-3 in a tight match Saturday morning at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
The Mavericks are now 10-13 overall and 1-2 in Summit League play. The Jaguars improved to 9-18 overall and 4-0 in league play.
Omaha dropped the doubles point to IUPUI, 2-1. Erik Anderson and Alex Woodward fell to Akshay Verma and David Beasley at No. 2, 6-4. Colin Buckley and Ignace Warson played a close match at No. 1, but fell, 7-5. Matt Dunn and John Ellis topped Matt Moe and Louis Sacks at No. 3, 7-6 (8).
UNO and IUPUI split the six singles matches on Saturday morning. Buckley and Marko Minic dropped their singles matches as IUPUI took a 3-0 lead in the match. Buckley fell at No. 1 in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, while Minic fell at No. 4, 6-2, 6-4. Omaha won matches at No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 to tie the match at 3-3. Warson won in straight sets at No. 6 over Kyle Whittaker, 6-4, 6-4. Anderson dropped the first set at No. 5, before winning the next two against Bradley Luetschwager, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. The match was tied after Dunn earned a close win over Beasley at No. 2, 7-5, 6-4.
The clinching match came at No. 3 between Woodward and Marcus Nalley. Nalley took the first set 6-4 and Woodward won the second set 6-1. Nalley won the third set 6-2 to give IUPUI the match.
The Mavericks continue Summit League action Saturday, April 16 in Tulsa, Okla. against Oral Roberts at 3 p.m.
