OMAHA, Neb. – All six of the Mavericks' singles players posted straight set victories as Omaha evened its Summit League record with a 7-0 win over Western Illinois on Sunday morning at the Koch Family Tennis Center.
The Mavericks are now 10-12 overall and 1-1 in league play. The 10 dual victories this year sets a program record for wins in a single season. Western Illinois is now 0-13 overall and 0-5 in Summit League play.
Omaha started off hot by sweeping the doubles play. Matt Dunn and John Ellis record a 6-0 win at No. 3 to get things started for the Mavs. Erik Anderson and Alex Woodward earned a quick 6-1 win at No. 2. Colin Buckley and Ignace Warson capped off the sweep with a 6-0 win at No. 1.
In singles, Anderson earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Christopher Nozum at No. 5. Marko Minic topped Nolan Jones 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4. Dunn and Woodward each won by the scores of 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 and No. 3 respectfully. Buckley earned a default win at No. 1. Senior Lukas Varenza finished the sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6.
"Today was a good win for the team in the windy conditions outdoors," said head coach Tyson Thomas. "We got a strong performance from everyone in the lineup and I liked how our guys finished their second sets.
Omaha continues Summit League play next weekend by hosting IUPUI. The match is set for a 10 a.m. start at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
