OMAHA, Neb. – It's simple for the Omaha men's tennis team on Saturday, win and they make the Summit League Championships next week.
Omaha concludes the regular season with a league match against South Dakota State. First serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center on Saturday.
It will be the final home match for Omaha's two seniors, Erik Anderson and Lukas Vanzura.
In their last Summit League match, the Mavericks lost 7-0 at Oral Roberts April 16. Omaha is 10-14 on the season with a 1-3 conference record.
Freshman Alex Woodward and sophomore Marko Minic are pacing the Mavs with eight singles wins each. Woodward is 8-13 while posting victories at the No. 1, 2, 3, and 4 positions. Minic is 8-14 with wins at No. 3 and 4 singles.
Junior Colin Buckley has played 17 matches this season at No. 1 and is 4-13.
At the No. 2 spot, freshman Matt Dunn owns a 7-13 record and is 2-2 against Summit League foes.
Sophomore Ignace Warson is 5-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play at No. 6.
The No.1 doubles team of Buckley and Warson are 6-12 this season and 1-2 in Summit League matches.
Anderson and Woodward have six doubles wins on the season playing at No. 2 and No. 3. Dunn has been part of 12 doubles wins this season, including a 6-3 record when partnering with junior John Ellis. The pair have gone 2-1 against Summit League opponents.
South Dakota State enters the weekend with a 12-10 overall record and a 1-3 league mark. Last time out, the Jackrabbits defeated Augustana, 8-1. SDSU will take on Creighton on Friday before playing Omaha on Saturday.
South Dakota State is led by Marco Paulo Castro and Mateus Moreira who each have 12 dual victories on the season. Castro is 12-3 with victories at the Nos. 5 and 6 positions and Moreira is 12-9 with wins at the Nos. 3, 4, and 5 positions. The top doubles team for the Jackrabbits isCastro and Jonny Higham with a record of 11-3.
