TULSA, Okla. – The Omaha men's tennis team dropped a Summit League match to Oral Roberts Saturday afternoon in Tulsa, 7-0.
The Mavericks are now 10-14 overall and 1-3 in Summit League play. The Golden Eagles improved to 13-10 on the season and 3-2 in conference.
Omaha dropped the doubles point to Oral Roberts. Matt Dunn and John Ellis fell at No. 3, 6-2. Erik Anderson and Alex Woodward dropped a close match at No. 2 to Amar Saletovic and Barnabas Koncz, 7-5. The match at No. 1 was left unfinished with ORU taking the point.
The Golden Eagles swept the Mavericks in the singles matches. Anderson fell to Michael Sosnowski at No. 5, 6-4, 6-1. Marko Minic played a competitive match at No. 4 against Kenneth Boykin, but lost 6-3, 6-2. Ignace Warson fell in split sets at No. 6 to Alvaro Santamaria, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
"We dropped the doubles a tight doubles point and never recovered," said head coach Tyson Thomas. "Oral Roberts played really well in the windy conditions and we were not able to adjust."
Omaha returns to action next weekend against South Dakota State at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center. The match will be the regular season finale for both teams. The winner clinches the final spot in the Summit League Championships later in the month. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
