Men's Tennis Hosts Western Illinois on Sunday

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team returns home after playing six straight matches on the road for Spring Break.  The Mavericks welcome Summit League foe Western Illinois to the Koch Family Tennis Center on Sunday morning at 11 a.m.  This will be Omaha's first home outdoor match of the spring.

The Mavericks are coming off of a 4-2 spring break trip which included stops in Louisiana and Arkansas. UNO topped Mobile 5-4 and Loyola-New Orleans 5-1 to start the trip before falling to Nicholls State 4-0 and New Orleans 6-1.  Omaha rebounded by sweeping Arkansas-Pine Bluff 4-0 and 4-0 to conclude its trip.

Omaha is now 9-12 overall and 0-1 in Summit League play.  The Mavericks set a program record with nine dual wins this season.  The previous mark was eight wins during the 2008-09 season.

Freshman Alex Woodward and sophomore Marko Minic each have seven singles wins on the season to lead the team.  Woodward is 7-11 while posting victories at the Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 4 positions. Minic is 7-12 with wins at Nos. 3 and 4 singles.  The pair are one win away from tying Erik Anderson's team record of seven singles wins in a season.

The pairing of junior Colin Buckley and Ignace Warson have a 5-11 record this season playing every match at No. 1  Anderson and Woodward also have five doubles wins on the season playing at No. 2 and No. 3.  Freshman Matt Dunn has been part of 10 doubles wins this season, which is a new program record.

Western Illinois comes into the match with a 0-10 (0-2 Summit League) record on the season. Nikola Pavlovic leads the Leathernecks with a 1-2 singles record.

Omaha will continue conference play with a home contest against IUPUI on April 9. The Mavericks and Jaguars will play at 10 a.m.
