OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team begins a six-match Spring Break slate in Louisiana on Monday, March 21 against the University of Mobile (Ala.) in New Orleans at 1 p.m. The Mavericks will play two matches on Tuesday starting with Loyola-New Orleans at 10 a.m. followed by Nicholls State at 3 p.m. UNO will face the University of New Orleans on Wednesday at 10 a.m. and will wrap up its trip with two matches at Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Friday.
Omaha has been idle since dropping a 7-0 decision to Lamar at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center on March 15. The Mavericks are 5-10 on the season.
Freshman Alex Woodward and junior John Ellis continue to lead the Mavericks. Woodward is 5-10 playing at the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 singles spots, with most of his matches at the No. 3. Ellis is 4-5 on the season playing at the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles spots. Ellis has spent most of the season at the No. 6 position, but had a straight set win against Lamar at the five spot. Junior Colin Buckley is 2-9 this season with all of his matches being played at No. 1. Freshman Sean Padios is 4-1 this season.
Buckley and Ignace Warson have played all but three matches at No. 1 doubles. The duo is 4-8 on the season. The freshman pairing of Matt Dunn and Brent McKnight are 4-3.
The Opposition
University of Mobile
The Rams are 7-3 this season and have won three straight matches. Tim Buehler is 6-0 on the season, while Jonah Jakubec and Mark Simons are 6-1 this season. Buehler and Simons are 7-1 at No. 1 doubles.
Loyola-New Orleans
The Wolfpack is 6-6 on the season and have won three straight matches.
Nicholls State
The Colonels are 2-10 this season after dropping a 6-1 decision to Abilene Christian. Sam Meessen and Max Sinn each have four wins on the season. Evan Karatzas is 3-8 with most of his matches coming at the No. 1 spot. Kieran Cronin and Oleksander Podgursky are 5-3 at the No. 1 doubles spot.
New Orleans
The Privateers are 5-4 on the season and have won two straight matches. New Orleans had matches against Lipscomb and Abilene Christian cancelled over the weekend due to heavy rains. Gonzalo Garcia has a team best 6-2 record playing at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Luis Albuquerque and Nicolas Kramer each have four wins on the season. The duo of Albuquerque and Jeffrey Hsu are 5-1 at No. 1 doubles, while Garcia and Kramer are 5-3 with most of their wins coming at No. 3.
Arkansas Pine Bluff
The Golden Lions are 1-13 this season and have lost six straight matches. Simon Lewis is a team best 3-9 on the season playing anywhere from No.1-3. Sajid Rahman has played most of his matches at No. 1 and is 2-9 overall. Rahman and Jualon Greig are 2-6 at No. 1 doubles.
