OMAHA, Neb. – On Tuesday, the Omaha men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss to No. 61 Lamar, with No. 5 John Ellis picking up the lone point for the Mavericks at home.

"I'm starting to see the potential I know is there from this team," said head coach Tyson Thomas.  "Lamar is a good team and I was very proud with how hard we competed and the way we carried ourselves."

Omaha dropped the doubles point to Lamar, 2-1.  At No. 1, Colin Buckley and Ignace Warson dropped a close match to Michael Feucht and Benny Schweizer, 6-4.  Erik Anderson and Alex Woodward lost a decision to Jeandre Hoogenboezem and Nikita Lis at No. 2, 6-1.  Matt Dunn and John Ellis prevented a sweep by picking up a win at No. 3, 6-4.

In singles, Lamar won all but one match.  Buckley lost his match at No. 1 to Feucht, 6-3, 6-1.  Minic fell at No. 4, 6-2, 6-1.  At No. 6, Sean Padios lost his first match of the year to Lukas Grubelnig, 7-6 (3), 6-2.    Woodward played a close first set before losing in straight sets at No. 3, 6-4, 6-1.

On court two, Dunn was just short of earning a point for the Mavericks, losing in a third set tie breaker, 6-4, 3-6, 0-1 (3).  Ellis on the other hand, found success, taking down Trey Crysel 7-6 (3), 6-3 to prevent the shutout.

Thomas praised the work of Ellis following the match.  "I'm very happy to see John (Ellis) play as well as he did today.  He looks very confident on all aspects of his game and the results are coming."

Omaha, now 5-10 overall, has nearly a week off before hitting the road for its Spring Break trip to New Orleans, La.  The Mavs take on the University of Alabama-Mobile in New Orleans on Monday, March 21 at 1 p.m.  On Tuesday, Omaha will play two matches starting with Loyola-New Orleans at 10 a.m., before taking on Nicholls State at 3 p.m.
