OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team saw its two match winning streak come to an end on Saturday evening against Illinois-Chicago. The Flames topped the Mavericks, 7-0.
The Mavericks are now 5-9 on the season. The Flames improved to 6-6 overall.
Illinois-Chicago took two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Alex Woodward and Erik Anderson dropped a close match at No. 2, 6-4. Sean Padios and Matt Dunn were stopped at No. 3 by Max Cederkall and Marcelo Dib, 6-4. Omaha's No. 1 team of Colin Buckley and Ignace Warson defeated the top team from UIC, 6-4.
In singles play, the Mavericks played several tight matches, but were unable to earn any victories. Anderson fell to Cederkall at No. 5, 7-5, 6-3. Buckley lost at No. 1 to Carl Hedstrom, 6-3, 7-5. Marko Minic played the closest match of the night at the No. 4 spot. Minic lost in split sets to Dib, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (7).
Omaha wraps up a six match homestand on Tuesday morning against Lamar. First serve at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center is set for 10 a.m.
