OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team welcomes UMKC to the Miracle Hill Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 6. First serve is set for 4 p.m. with the doubles matches and all six singles matches will follow.
The Mavericks are 3-3 overall and 0-1 in Summit League action. The Kangaroos are 2-0 on the season, but have not played since Jan. 23. Alex Woodward and John Ellis each have three wins on the season to lead UNO. Matt Dunn and Brent McKnight have three wins in doubles.
Last week, the Mavericks went 1-2 over three matches. Omaha opened the weekend with a sweep of Concordia on Friday evening, 7-0. Matt Dunn won a split set match at No. 1 singles over Willy Pardo 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (6). Dunn teamed with Brent McKnight for a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles. John Ellis won his singles match at No. 4 6-0, 6-0. Ignace Warson and Sean Padios won their matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles with identical 6-0, 6-1 scores. The Mavericks dropped their first home match of the season to Illinois State on Saturday, 6-1. Colin Buckley won his match at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-0. Buckley teamed with Warson for an exciting 7-6 (2) win at No. doubles. UNO dropped its Summit League opener to No. 52 Denver on Sunday afternoon, 7-0. Buckley played a touch match at No. 1 singles, but lost to No. 45 Diogo Rocha 6-1, 6-2.
The Mavericks will hit the road next weekend for a pair of matches in DeKalb, Ill. Omaha will open with Northern Illinois on Friday, Feb. 12 at 4 p.m., before playing Cleveland State on Saturday at 9 a.m.
